As part of the town of Eben am Achensee in Tyrol, Pertisau is part of the tourist center around Lake Achen.

Pertisau adjoins the nature protection area Karwendel, which is one of the largest nature protection areas in Tyrol (727 km² (281 sq.mi.)). Around Pertisay several two-thousanders such as the Sonnjoch, Lamsenspitze, Dristenkopf and Rappenspitze tower into the sky, between them the woody valley and mountain pastures adjoining Pertisau.

Pertisau was first mentioned in the 14th century in a deed of the St. Georgenberg-Fiecht abbey. The Habsburgs discovered Pertisau in the 15th century hunting in the surrounding forests and fishing on Lake Achen until 1918.

Tourism started in the middle of the 19th century and today Pertisau is a center of quality hotels, pensions, vacation apartments and Alpine guesthouses.
